Time: Local time in Mozambique is GMT +2 hours
Electricity: 220 volts AC, 50Hz. The South African rounded three-pin plug is common. Two round- and flat-pin plugs are also found.
Language: Portuguese is widely spoken, however, you can get by with English.
Telephone dialling codes: The international dialling code for Mozambique is +258. City codes are also required. The outgoing code is 00 followed by the relevant country code (e.g. 0027 for South Africa).
Currency / Money: The official currency is the Metical. The use of US Dollars, British Pound or South African Rand is widely accepted, but it is advisable to carry some local currency with you. Credit cards are accepted in some of the more upmarket hotels and resorts, and also some restaurants in Maputo, but will be of little assistance in the rest of the country. Hard currency and travellers cheques are widely accepted and can be exchanged at many hotels, resorts and banks.

Tipping: Generally Tipping is not expected, although in tourist areas, in restaurants a tip of 10 to 15% is appreciated.
Passports & Visas: Certain passport nationalities require a visa for Mozambique, and these should be obtained in advance. Please ensure that your passport is valid for more than 6 months after your departure from Mozambique and that you have at least 2 blank pages in your passport.
