KARIEGA GAME RESERVE

Unique attractions place this malaria-free game lodge set in Big 5 territory, in a class of its own.
 
Kariega is situated 140km (approximately 80 minutes drive) from Port Elizabeth and 10 minutes from the beaches of Kenton-on-Sea.

Due to the diversity of activities on offer at Kariega Game Reserve, home to the Big 5, anything from 2 to 5 nights can be enjoyed. However, a minimum 2-night stay is highly recommended for your ultimate safari experience.

River Lodge
Nestled on the banks of the Bushman’s River, this 5-star quality Lodge comprises 10 superbly appointed thatched suites. The Lodge, which overhangs the river, offers exclusivity, comfort and spectacular views and apart from wonderful game viewing, unique features include excellent river fishing and crabbing. Children over 10 years are welcome.

Ukhozi Lodge
A luxury Lodge which accommodates 20 guests in 10 superbly appointed suites, each with own plunge pool, with panoramic views from private viewing decks. The Lodge boasts unique African-style lounges, dining area and boma with an outdoor pool. Here guests can unwind in front of warm log fires, enjoy sumptuous cuisine or simply share experiences of the African bush. Children over 10 years are welcome.

Kariega Main Lodge
Our family friendly Kariega Main Lodge comprises luxurious and spacious log chalets, all en-suite with their own viewing decks and some with private pools. Here you can enjoy complete privacy, spectacular views and intimate contact with nature. Children of all ages are welcome.

The Homestead
Set in a remote part of the reserve with spectacular views. The Homestead is perfect for a group or family of up to 10 persons, wishing to enjoy a unique safari experience tailored to their own needs.

A Typical Day:

Arrival time at the reserve is 12h30 for lunch.  Check in either immediately or at 14h00.  After lunch you can relax and take in the magnificent views from your chalet or luxury suite.

At 16h00 you are collected by an experienced Ranger in an open vehicle and set out into the reserve for an evening safari. Kariega is home to abundant birdlife and game and you will enjoy wonderful sightings of lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra and numerous antelope species. Sundowners are served in the tranquil surroundings of the African bushveld and you then return to the Lodge where you can unwind in front of warm log fires and enjoy sumptuous cuisine.

Awaken to the beauty of Africa and depart at 06h00 for a combined game drive and river cruise meandering down the Kariega River.

Enjoy a late breakfast at approximately 09h00, upon your return to the Lodge.

Between breakfast and lunch you can simply relax or choose between a host of additional activities:

• Numerous hiking trails, guided or unguided
• Game viewing on mountain bikes
• Canoeing safari on the Kariega River

After lunch you can enjoy a siesta and at 16h00 you once again depart on a game drive, followed by dinner in your Lodge or outdoor boma.

River Lodge: low season from R2700; high season from R3800
Inclusive of all meals (including selected beverages) and 2 game activities per day. Adult rates apply for children 11 years and older.

Ukhozi Lodge: low season from R2500; high season from R3500      
Inclusive of all meals (including selected beverages) and 2 game activities per day. Adult rates apply for children 11 years and older.

Kariega Main Lodge: low season from R2100; high season from R3000

Inclusive of all meals (excluding beverages) and 2 game activities per day. Children 12 yrs and under pay 50% of the adult rate.

The Homestead: low season from R15, 000; high season from R20, 000.
Rate for the entire Homestead. Inclusive of all meals (including selected beverages) and 2 game activities per day. Sleeps up to 10 people (adults & children).
