Meaning ‘lion’ in Shangaan, Ngala was the first private safari reserve to be incorporated in the world-famous Kruger National Park – the largest wildlife sanctuary in South Africa. With exclusive traversing rights over 14 700 hectares (36 323 acres) of Kruger's game-rich wilderness, Ngala offers an extraordinary African wildlife safari experience. Located approximately 500 km from Johannesburg, there is an airstrip in the vicinity for those who prefer to fly in.

Ngala Private Game Reserve is host to an exclusive Safari Lodge, luxurious Tented Safari Camp and wilderness Walking Safari Camp, all offering world-class sophistication and style in the African bush.

Ngala Safari Lodge: This gracious, colonial-style safari lodge, set in Ngala's extraordinary African wilderness, is renowned for its superb accommodation. It provides an unbeatable family safari experience in the heart of the Kruger National Park.

The 20 thatched cottages are shaded by Mopane trees and overlook the river area below. All feature air conditioning, intimate verandas and green slate en-suite baths and showers. The renowned and exclusive Safari Suite is also situated at the Lodge.

Ngala Tented Camp: Set on the banks of the great seasonal Timbavati River, six luxurious tented suites feature en suite bathrooms with spacious baths and outdoor showers. A lap pool merges with the contours of the riverbank – great for laid-back game viewing.

In true Ngala style, Ngala Tented Camp was designed to provide minimal impact on the environment.

Ngala comprises of three distinct habitats, which offer an incredible diversity of game.
It boasts the Big Five, superlative lion and leopard viewing, buffalo herds of over 300 individuals, huge elephant herds, and endangered African wild dog regularly den in the reserve. Superb bird watching including an abundance of raptors, owls and savannah birds is available in this great diversity of habitats.

Ngala offers a number of specialist safaris for discerning guests: Guests may enjoy exhilarating Walking Safaris tracking rhino, elephant bulls and buffalo herds on foot during exciting morning walks and viewing nocturnal predators on informative night game-drives. Led by specialist rangers, safety is the highest priority.  Accommodation is in four spacious safari tents with en suite facilities. Rates as per normal accommodation rates plus from R6120 per group per night, minimum 2 nights.
Experience the thrill of tracking animals on foot in Ngala’s extraordinary wilderness, accompanied throughout by an armed specialist ranger and Shangaan tracker team.

Rates are inclusive of three delicious meals daily including all teas and coffees, two scheduled game-drives daily in an open 4 x 4 safari vehicle, accompanied by an experienced Ranger and Tracker, interactive bush walks (one hour) accompanied by our experienced armed Trackers, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, soft drinks and bottled water, laundry service, Emergency Medical Evacuation Insurance, VAT / Taxes.
